Reuse of Electric Arc Furnace Slag as Filler for Nitrile Butadiene Rubber

Abstract This work shows an innovative application for electric arc furnace (EAF) slag: its use as a filler nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR). Composites with various EAF slag contents were tested. It was found that the polymer matrix significantly reduces leaching of (determined according to standard CEN-EN 12457-2) incorporated in NBR. The processability characteristics determined by rheometric curves highlight accelerates crosslinking kinetics, reducing production cycle time. Mechanical characterization demonstrated increases hardness and compression modulus. ability recover imposed deformation quantified set is reduced amount but remains below acceptable value. can be stated sealing systems, NBR positively affects compound properties.
